Teaching Students With Disabilities
The EC Department created this web page to help answer questions about students with disabilities. We have attempted to include information about the most common disabilities we encounter at ACMS: learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, behavioral/emotional disabilities, ADD/ADHD, and autism.
If you have a resource you would like to share please let an EC teacher know.
We hope this information will be useful in your classroom!
Student Assistance Team
The Student Assistance Team provides teachers with support for students who are experiencing academic, social, and/or behavioral difficulties. The primary goal of the Student Assistance Team is to solve problems experienced in the classroom by generating strategies that will allow students to make meaningful progress in their area of need.
Thus, the crucial components of this process will include:
*Clearly defining the student’s problem
*Creating a hypothesis for why that problem is occurring
*Developing an intervention plan
*Implementing the plan in the classroom setting to fidelity
*Evaluating the effectiveness of that placement
To refer students please complete the referral form under the Staff Resources section of the ACMS webpage and turn it in to Holly McClure.
A meeting will then be scheduled with your team to discuss your concerns.
